Common is the app volunteers use to support political candidates and campaigns — phone banking, text banking, and shift sign-ups, all from your phone. If something isn’t working or you have a question, we’re here to help.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I sign in?

Common uses your phone number to sign you in — no password to remember. Enter your number, and we’ll text you a verification code. If the code doesn’t arrive, check that your number was entered correctly and that your device can receive SMS messages.

How do I join a campaign?

Campaigns invite volunteers to join them on Common. If you’re expecting an invite and haven’t received one, reach out to your campaign organizer — or contact us and we’ll help you get connected.

How do calls to voters work?

Calls are placed through your phone’s native dialer using your own line. Common shows you the script and the voter to call, hands off to the Phone app, and lets you log the result of each conversation when you return. Standard calling rates from your carrier may apply.

How does text banking work?

Text banking is person-to-person: you send each message yourself using campaign-prepared scripts. Replies appear in your in-app inbox, where you can respond, mark conversations resolved, or pass them to another volunteer.

How do I sign up for a shift?

Browse open shifts across the campaigns you’ve joined from the app’s shift list and sign up with one tap. Your upcoming shifts appear in the app so you always know what’s next.

How do I delete my account?

You can delete your account directly in the app: go to the Profile tab, then Settings, then Delete Account. This removes your account and associated data. You can also email us and we’ll process the deletion for you.

How is my data handled?

Found a bug or something that doesn’t look right? Email support@americamajority.org with a description of the issue and we’ll investigate. Reports from volunteers in the field are the fastest way for us to find and fix problems.

Common is built by the American Majority Project. Campaigns manage their volunteer programs with our companion Helm web app, and volunteers take action with Common on iOS.
